(Online Delivery) Communication for Results

Description

Writing well is an essential skill set in today’s technology driven organizational.
The skill set is not natural and only comes when the author takes the time to learn and the use processes to compose professionally and effectively.

This single day delivery strives to provide attendees with:

1) Evaluation skills; interpreting communications and deriving result-oriented responses
2) Audience identification and assessment. Knowing the audience that is requiring the
communication and effectively composing responses
3) Development of impactful and persuasive compositions
4) Ability to identify and correct common communication pitfalls

Topic One – Interpreting the Situation

Without a full grasp of the given situation, communicators are often unable to author impactful, concise and result oriented composition. Within this topic students will review and then compare some examples of compositions that
present a situation, they will judge the quality of the writing and assess if it presents a persuasive argument that will likely result in an agreement.

Topic Two – Knowing the Audience

What are the methods to collect the information about the audience that will be receiving your communication. Here examples will illustrate analyzing bias and the addressing those biases. Attendees will identify numerous components in previous communications that would allow an author to cater to the skill set and the job scope of a recipient and build a response that will help in directing all parties to the same result.

Topic Three – Key Concepts of Result Oriented Communications

Presenting the concepts of the five “Cs” of composition and the importance of the “Ws” (Who, what, where, when, and why) for impressive conversations.
This topic will expand on what it means to be correct, concise, complete, being clear, and courteous. The discussions will identify the best methods to present these “Cs” into a communication.

Topic Four – Words Matter!

At this point in the delivery, we will identify positive words and phrase compared to negative words; and how they can affect the result. Words that don’t fit with the content will be identified. For Example, when do I use Effect, Affect, when do I use Ensure versus Insure, these are common errors and detract from the result.
Paragraph structure appears in this topic as well as composition flow. Attendees will be encouraged to create a ‘style’ for a document based upon the type of
communication being composed.

Topic Five – Writing for Positive and Negative Situations

How to handle conflicts and agreements inside a document. What not to say. How to change the tables and make the communication reader focused and not author focused. The cost, both to finances and reputation when ineffective and non-persuasive communications are sent/used will be discussed. How to change these outcomes.

Topic Six – Common Pitfalls

Attendees will learn about correct punctuation and when to use a full paragraph or a bulleted list. Here students will also learn about READING level and how to best handle abbreviations and acronyms.

Topic Seven – Tips and Tricks for Result Driven Communications

After learning all of the previous concepts, here students will learn about several tricks that show recipients that the author took the time to create professional, inclusive and well-formed communications.
1) How to best write business email messages, with or without attachments.
2) How to best write a full business letter, with links and/or references
